Job DescriptionCatholic High-school is seeking a full time, highly qualified Theater Arts and Dance Director, specializing in dance and theater. As Classroom Teacher Teach dance classes grades nine thru 12 Develop a challenging curriculum to include theoretical and practical elements Train students in skills required to run a show, encourage student crews to work as a team reinforce the crews sense of value to each production Responsible for at least two dance productions per school yearAs Performing Arts DirectorOverall, has the daily responsibility of overseeing the teachers performance in the Performing Arts department Operates, maintains, and safeguards the technical assets of the Program, including supervising the use and maintenance of the lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of musical instruments Determines the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates Designs, sets up, maintains, and operates lighting and sound systems for theater, dance, music, and other productions and projects Responsible for at least two productions of musical or drama theater Assists in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff for individual shows Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound equipment arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints performs preventive maintenance on equipment Assists with the preparation and control of production budgets maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies Makes recommendations to the Principal regarding capital purchases of technical equipment Work with the Director of Facilities to oversee the maintenance and availablilty of the theater facilityQualifications BA in Theater ArtsCommunications MA preferred Basic technical skills Microsoft Outlook, Ms word, and Microsoft excel Background teaching high-school drama and dance theater preferred Background working with colleagues to accomplish common goals a willingness to collaborate with colleagues, and to work in a team environment Recent training andor knowledge regarding current trends in the teaching of drama Training andor background in the infusion of multi-cultural materials into all classes Background working with other staff members to accomplish common goals and to develop appropriate instructional strategies Skill in using a variety of instructional strategies to engage student learning through innovative, relevant learning experiences Expertise to relate the drama classroom to the real world Expertise to work in partnership with parents, staff, students, and the community to provide student-centered learning Commitment to the Catholic education profession as evidenced by participation in curriculum development projects, professional organizations, and by evidence of continuing-ed As Performing Arts director, expertise to work autonomously, exercising independent judgment in performing a wide variety of dutiesCompetitive salary.
